Summer rehearsals — noise versus heat?
Today it is hot – going to be 89. Our regular rehearsal space has no AC – but we have fans and windows. Of course the windows face on to a noisy midtown Manhattan avenue, making it hard to hear and the fans distort pitch. But without — really really hot! A conundrum.
We used to say the Romantics starved for their art. Here in the 21st Century perhaps we sweat for it.
Today we will continue to sweat over Mark WInges’s trio, Sweet Dance Suite, Unfurnished. I wonder about the title of the second movement — Pineapple Stress Reduction — what does it mean? Do pineapples help lower stress? Or are pineapples in need of stress reduction? Is this a California thing, that only Mark and other Bay Area people understand and we East Coaster just don’t get?? Your thoughts are welcome.
