Event Details

We are over the moon with excitement to be collaborating with the UN Symphony Orchestra and its Music Director and Conductor, Maestro Predrag Vasić to perform Jorge Amado’s Concertino for Flute, Viola and Cello and string orchestra.

The UN Symphony Orchestra is an international ensemble of musicians who work at the United Nations, as well as other international organizations, agencies, programs and funds located in New York. We are very excited to presenting the premiere of this exciting and fun piece with this ensemble at beautiful Merkin Hall.

We are so proud of Jorge, who was the first composer to win our 8SW Composer Competition. In the last five years, his music has been recognized all over the world at numerous competitions and received standing ovations at performances by ensembles from the National Symphony of Cuba to the Catalyst Quartet at Maverick Concerts in Woodstock, NY. The Concertino, composed for 8SW, is a piece full of rhythmic energy and drive. It merges elements of a Baroque Concerto Grosso with 21st Century harmonies. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear it!

The program will include Vladimir Tošić’s Medial 623 (check him out here!) and Brahms’ Symphony No. 3. What a program!  Please join us! To purchase tickets, please visit here.
